New cannabis corporations in California will have to have a labor contract or agreement in hand to get a license to operate below a new state law.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed many bills aimed at enhancing the prospects for unions in organizing campaigns. Assembly Bill 1291, by Assemblymember Reginald Jones-Sawyer (D), demands cannabis dispensary applicants to file a notarized statement promising to enter into a labor peace agreement or a contract inside 60 days of possessing 20 staff. The bill is backed by the United Meals and Industrial Workers, Western States Council.
